We collected hundreds of signatures outside the Co-op today asking the Co-Operative Society to reconsider its closure of Hall Green Co-op Many people we met were shocked and very upset about the closure and the way it was being done. It will greatly affect Hall Green community and particularly the elderly people who live in the vicinity. We heard stories about people who relied on this Co=op as they do not have transport. We heard that Friendly Corner from the Hall Green United church who provide cooked meals one day a week to people in the community shop for all the food at the Co-op. We also heard stories from residents such as the story below. Isn’t it about time that the Co-op put community before corporate policy and showed that they thought more about their staff many of whom are long serving staff and about the community they serve particularly as the espouse the values of democracy, equality, solidarity, openness, social responsibility and caring for others.
